A. AB de Villiers
Over the past five years, AB de Villiers has dominated One Day International Cricket. It is therefore no surprise that he has retained his no.1 ranking amongst ODI batsmen. De Villiers’ leadership skills are also mention-worthy as he led the Proteas to the World Cup semi-final. He has also won five awards at the CSA Annual Awards banquet, including the SA Cricketer of the Year award.
B. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio
Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio has once again dominated women’s cycling in South Africa’s road scene and excelled by placing herself at the front of the peloton in Europe. In 2015, Moolman-Pasio was placed first in the South African Road Cycling Championships, first in the South African Time Trail Championship and first at the Overall Auensteiner-Radsporttage, to name a few.
C. Chad le Clos
Chad le Clos was named 2014 FINA/Master Bank Swimming World Cup Male Swimmer of the competition, won four gold medals and set 3 New Championship Records in all fly events, and one new World Record in the 100m butterfly at the 2014 Doha Short Course World Championships. In December 2014, he was crowned the best swimmer of 2014 and FINA Best Athlete of the Year by the International Swimming Federation.
D. Lucas Sithole
Lucas Sithole has solidified his position as one of the top quad wheelchair tennis players in the world. Sithole is currently ranked 3rd in the world in singles and 7th in doubles. Sithole won the singles event at the BNP World Team Cup 2015 playing as the SA captain. Other great achievements by Sithole include winning the British Open (Super Series), the ACSA SA Open (Super Series) and the Sydney International WCT Open (Super Series).
E. Wayde Van Niekerk
Wayde van Niekerk is a South African track and field sprinter who competes in the 200m and 400m. Van Niekerk currently holds the record for the 400m event and is the first athlete in Africa to run this in under 44 seconds. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Van Niekerk took home the silver, and represented South Africa at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships in Athletics.
